Healthy people 2010. Provide local resources that will assist the Department
in meeting the following Healthy People 2010 state goals:
Reduce
the prevalence of adults who are current cigarette smokers from 22.7% to
20% by June 2010
Reduce
current smoking prevalence among 18-24 year olds from 34% (CI 30% to 38%)
in 2005 to 25% by June 2010
Reduce
current smoking prevalence among 30-44 year olds from 28% (CI 26% to 30%)
in 2005 to 23% by June 2010
Reduce
the prevalence of pregnant women who are current cigarette smokers in the
last trimester of pregnancy in 2003 from 14% to 11% by June 2010
Increase
the prevalence of current adult smokers who are trying to quit from 56%
(CI 53% to 59%) in 2005 to 52% by June 2010
Increase
the proportion of smokers who have been advised to quit smoking by a health
care professional from 68.5% (CI 65% to 71.8%) to 75% by June 2010
Reduce
the current cigarette use among high school youth (grades 9-12) from 23.1%
to 20% by June 2010
Reduce
current use of all tobacco products among high school youth from 29.8% to
26% by June 2010
Reduce
current cigarette use among middle school youth (grades 6-8) from 7.8% to
5% by June 2010
Reduce
current use of all tobacco products among middle school youth from 12.4%
to 9% by June 2010
Reduce
the rate of illegal sale of tobacco to youth under age 18 years from 8%
in 2005 to 5% by June 2010.
