Health Care Logistics: When Our Health Comes First

There is a debate that seems to be getting popularity in the health industry environment. Recycling medical material is a very controversial topic because it deals with the two most important concerns in humanity: our own health and the health of our planet.

Many years ago scientist started to pass on the information that phenomenon that was named global warming was happening in our planet and most people chose not to believe it. These people argued that the scientists were being too negative and catastrophic. Nowadays nobody can deny the impact that human have had in our planet. We see every day how the poles are melting and how little by little animal and plants species are disappearing. There is a lot of buzz in media and the authorities are changing legislation in order to stop the damage. For some is too late for other there is still something that can be done. Many people are doing big efforts to repair our habitat.

In the same way a new tendency has appear and it is not becoming very popular. The suggestion that Health care logistics companies should start practicing recycling procedures seems to be illogical for some. With a little bit of luck this will end like the global warming trend: convincing everyone. The question is: should we wait until the signs are obvious to start practicing Health care logistics recycling in hospitals and health centers? The answer is of course no. We shouldn’t wait until the damage is really big so nobody can deny it.

Fortunately there is an initial approach that is being tested by some health institutions. The idea behind this approach is that not everything inside a hospital is touched or in contact with patients. There are such things as plastic containers and packaging that in fact is left in the storage rooms or the doctors’ offices and is never even touched by the patients. This approach consists on separating this kind of materials after they have been meticulously identified and them place them in special containers to be taken for recycling. This is a very controversial subjects because detractors indicate that there is a risk that some material could be infected and therefore we could end ups putting the health of many at risk.

This is why pilots are being performed in order to test all the criticism theories that are attacking this eco friendly approach. There is also another approach that consist on a more complicated process where even infected material can be recycled. We still have a long way to go in this matter but at least we have started to go forward realizing the importance of contributing with the well being of our planet.
